Shopify Business Central Integration for Australian Businesses

Your online store and your ledger should tell the same story. A well-built Shopify Business Central integration makes sure they do.

Here’s how Microsoft’s Shopify Connector works, and how ERP Werx sets it up properly.

Ready to start selling with Shopify?

Shopify Business Central integration links your Shopify store to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central through Microsoft’s own Shopify Connector. As a result, products, prices, stock, customers and orders move between the two systems. So online sales reach your ledger without re-keying.

ERP Werx is an Australian Business Central specialist, based in Melbourne and Sydney. We set up, tune and fix the Shopify Connector. That way, your store, warehouse and finance team work from the same numbers.

What the Shopify Connector for Business Central Does

One Microsoft connector. Two systems that finally agree.

Microsoft builds the Shopify Connector into Business Central, and it comes preinstalled in new online environments. Once you connect a store, the Shopify Business Central integration runs automatically through the job queue.

If Shopify and the ledger disagree, the integration has failed.

Multiple Shopify Stores

Connect more than one shop. Each store keeps its own products, locations and price lists.

Products and Items

Two-way sync with images, variants, barcodes, tags and metafields. Also export attributes, marketing text and translations.

Prices and B2B Catalogs

Use customer price groups and discounts for Shopify prices, including catalogs for B2B companies and markets.

Inventory by Location

Send stock levels from the Business Central locations you choose to multiple Shopify locations.

Customers and Companies

Two-way sync of customers and B2B companies. Matches by email, phone, tax or registration number.

Orders From Every Channel

Import online store, Shopify POS and B2B orders, including shipping, gift cards, tips, returns and refunds.

Payouts and Transactions

Bring Shopify Payments payouts and transactions into Business Central, so reconciliation starts with real data.

Fulfilment and Invoices

Send fulfilment and, optionally, item tracking back to Shopify. Posted sales invoices are visible to signed-in buyers.

What moves, and in which direction.

Getting the direction right matters. In a healthy Shopify Business Central integration, Business Central owns stock and prices. Meanwhile, Shopify sends in orders and payouts.

How to Connect Shopify to Business Central

Five steps from Microsoft’s setup guide.

The connection itself is quick. However, the settings you choose afterwards decide whether your Shopify Business Central integration works.

  1. Check the prerequisites

You need a Shopify account with an online store, plus Business Central online. Also confirm the Shopify Connector app is installed, and give the user the SHPFY – ADMIN permission set.

  2. Add the Business Central app in Shopify (optional)

The Dynamics 365 Business Central app on the Shopify App Store mainly helps new merchants start a trial. If you already have Business Central, skip it, because it installs automatically when you connect.

  3. Create a Shopify Shop in Business Central

Search for Shopify Shop, choose New, then enter a code and your admin URL in the format https://{shop}.myshopify.com.

  4. Enable the connection and approve access

Turn on Enabled, accept the terms, then approve the app in Shopify. Keep pop-ups allowed, because a blocked window stops the access token request.

  5. Repeat for each store, then set up sync

Next, configure items, prices, inventory, customers and orders. Finally, schedule each sync in the job queue.

Test first, without risking your live store

Microsoft recommends testing in sandboxes, for example a Shopify development store with a Business Central sandbox.

If you must connect a live store to a test company, turn off Allow Data Sync to Shopify. That way, Business Central can’t write to your store.

What to Check Before You Connect Shopify and Business Central

The fine print that catches businesses out.

Before you start a Shopify Business Central integration project, check these four points first.

Business Central online only

The Shopify Connector isn’t available for on-premises Business Central. Still on-premises? Start with a cloud migration.

Two licences required

You need both a Business Central licence and a Shopify plan. Also, the connector works with Business Central only, not Dynamics 365 Sales or Supply Chain Management.

Stay on current updates

Connectors from 2026 release wave 1 use Shopify API version 2026-01, which Shopify supports until 31 December 2026. If you fall behind on updates, sync can stop.

Watch the access token

The connector refreshes its access token automatically. However, if no refresh succeeds for 90 days, reconnect with Request Access on the Shopify Shop Card.

When Shopify Business Central Integrations Go Wrong

We get called in when one of these happens.

  • Orders import, but payments and payouts don’t reconcile.
  • Shopify stock doesn’t match the warehouse, so you oversell.
  • Duplicate customers pile up because mapping was never set.
  • Sync stopped after an update or an expired token, and nobody noticed.
  • GST on Shopify orders posts differently from the rest of your ledger.

Shopify and Business Central FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear most.

What is the Shopify Connector for Business Central?

It’s a Microsoft-built app that links Shopify stores to Dynamics 365 Business Central. It syncs products, prices, inventory, customers and orders, and it comes preinstalled in new Business Central online environments.

Does the Shopify connector work with Business Central on-premises?

No. The connector is only available for Business Central online. If you’re still on-premises, a cloud migration comes first.

What licences do I need for Shopify Business Central integration?

You need a Business Central licence and a Shopify plan with an online store. In addition, the user who connects them needs the SHPFY – ADMIN permission set.

Can I connect more than one Shopify store to Business Central?

Yes. Each shop has its own setup, including products, locations and price lists. You can also connect one store to several Business Central companies, which helps with testing.

Does the Business Central Shopify connector support Shopify POS and B2B?

Yes. It imports orders from the online store, Shopify POS and B2B channels. It also syncs B2B companies and prices for catalogs linked to companies and markets.

Is the sync between Shopify and Business Central real-time?

Not by default. Instead, syncs run automatically on a schedule through the Business Central job queue. You can also run them manually when needed.

Why did my Shopify and Business Central sync stop?

Common causes include an expired access token or a blocked pop-up during connection. Also, an out-of-date Business Central version may use a retired Shopify API. For example, connectors from 2026 release wave 1 use Shopify API 2026-01, which is supported until 31 December 2026.

Can I test Shopify with Business Central without affecting my live store?

Yes. Microsoft recommends sandboxes, such as a Shopify development store with a Business Central sandbox. Otherwise, turn off Allow Data Sync to Shopify so Business Central can’t write to your live store.
