Migrate to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
Move from NAV or GP without losing what works.Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is the cloud successor to Dynamics NAV and the natural next step for Dynamics GP customers. ERP Werx is an Australian Business Central migration partner based in Melbourne and Sydney. Founded in 1986, we became the first certified NAV partner in Asia-Pacific in 1997, so we know what to keep, what to rebuild and what to leave behind. That’s why we can migrate NAV, GP and other on-premises systems at a fixed price, and rescue migrations that have stalled.Get a fixed-price quoteCall 1300 914 103What Moves Across to Business Central
Financial Data & History
Chart of accounts, open balances and the history your reporting needs. Older records stay accessible, so you still meet the ATO’s five-year rule.Customers, Vendors & Items
Master data is cleaned before it moves, so duplicates and dead records stay behind.Customisations
Each one is reviewed. Many are now standard features or apps, and the rest are rebuilt as extensions, so updates don’t break them.Integrations
Links to payroll, eCommerce, banks and other systems are rebuilt on modern APIs, so there are no brittle workarounds.Reports
Key reports are rebuilt in Business Central, Excel or Power BI, so month-end looks familiar from day one.Users & Workflows
Roles, permissions and approvals are set up for how your team works now, then everyone is trained before go-live.Dynamics NAV and GP End of Support: Key Dates
The deadlines are set, so plan before you’re forced to.Microsoft has set end dates for its older on-premises ERP products. When support ends, security updates stop. When service plans end, you can no longer add users or renew licences. Planning now means you migrate on your timeline, not Microsoft’s. These dates are as published by Microsoft and were checked in October 2026.
A planned migration costs less than a forced one.
NAV 2016 and Earlier
Already out of support. Extended support for NAV 2016 ended in April 2026, so these systems no longer receive security updates.Dynamics NAV 2017
Extended support ends in January 2027, so there are only months left to plan.Dynamics NAV 2018
NAV 2018 was the final version of NAV. Extended support ends on 11 January 2028.NAV Licences & Service Plans
From 30 April 2031, Enhancement and Advantage plans end, and you can no longer buy new NAV user licences.Dynamics GP
Support, tax updates and enhancements end on 31 December 2029. Security updates stop on 30 April 2031.Business Central On-Premises
Each on-premises version has its own support window, so staying on-premises still means regular upgrade projects. Why Migrate to Business Central Online
Always current, so you never pay for another upgrade project.Moving to Business Central online replaces upgrade projects, servers and patching with a subscription that Microsoft keeps current. In a Microsoft-commissioned study published in March 2026, Forrester Consulting modelled more than 200% ROI over three years, with potential payback in six months. However, those results are for a composite organisation, so your outcome depends on how well the migration is done.
AI only helps when the data underneath it is right, so that’s where we start.
Always Current
Microsoft delivers updates automatically, so there are no more upgrade projects to budget for.AI Agents and Copilot
Copilot and agents for sales orders, payables and expenses run in the cloud version. We confirm what’s live in Australia before you plan around it.Works With Microsoft 365
Business Central works inside Outlook, Excel and Teams, and Microsoft 365 users can view its data in Teams at no extra cost.Less IT to Manage
Microsoft runs the servers, backups and security patches, so your team can stop maintaining them.Work From Anywhere
Full access on desktop, tablet or phone, across Windows, macOS, iOS and Android.Room to Grow
Add users, companies and apps as you grow. Business Central runs in more than 50 languages and 157 countries.Three Ways to Move to Business Central
Different starting points, so there’s more than one right answer. There’s no single way to migrate. The right path depends on your version, how heavily it’s customised and what the business needs next. Most businesses take one of three paths, and some come to us after a migration has already gone wrong.
We’ll tell you which path fits, including when the answer isn’t us.
Upgrade and Migrate
Bring your data and history across from NAV, GP or Business Central on-premises using Microsoft’s migration tools. Customisations you still need are rebuilt as extensions.Start Fresh at a Fixed Price
Re-implement Business Central and bring across master data and open balances, so old workarounds stay behind.Migrate and Transform
Use the move to add Power Platform automation, Shopify or LS Central retail, so the new system does more than the old one.Rescue a Stalled Migration
Started with another partner and it’s gone wrong? We take over, stabilise what’s there and finish the job, usually without starting again. How a Business Central Migration Works
Assess first, then fix the price, so there are no surprises.Every migration follows the same six steps. The difference is how carefully each one is done. We start with an assessment, then give you a fixed price and a milestone plan before any build work begins.
The hard questions come first, so nothing is discovered halfway through.
1. Assess Your Current System
We review your version, customisations, integrations, reports and data, so we know exactly what we’re moving.2. Decide What to Keep
Each customisation is kept, replaced by a standard feature or retired, so you only pay to rebuild what still matters.3. Agree a Fixed Price
You get a written scope, acceptance criteria and milestones, so you know the cost before you start.4. Move and Test Your Data
Data is cleaned, migrated and reconciled against your old system in trial runs before go-live.5. Train Your People
Users are trained on their own processes in Business Central, so they’re confident on day one.6. Go Live and Stabilise
We go live when the numbers reconcile, then support you through the first month-end and beyond.Common concerns about migrating to Business Central
- Microsoft lists Business Central Essentials at AU$119.70 and Premium at AU$164.60 per user per month, paid yearly and excluding GST (October 2026). Team Members licences are AU$12.00.
- There are no servers to replace and no upgrade projects to fund, because Microsoft keeps the system current.
- We migrate at a fixed price, so the project cost is known before you commit. Eligible projects may also qualify for Microsoft ECIF funding.
- Many old customisations are now standard Business Central features, or available as apps on Microsoft Marketplace.
- The ones you still need are rebuilt as extensions, so Microsoft’s updates don’t break them.
- We review every customisation up front and tell you which ones are worth keeping.

Straight answers to the questions we hear most.
How do I migrate from Dynamics NAV to Business Central?
Start with an assessment of your NAV version, customisations, integrations and data. Then choose a path: upgrade and migrate your data and history using Microsoft’s tools, or start fresh and bring across master data and open balances. ERP Werx assesses first, then fixes the price before the migration starts.
When does support for Dynamics NAV end?
NAV 2016 and earlier are already out of support. Extended support for NAV 2017 ends in January 2027, and for NAV 2018, the final version, on 11 January 2028. From 30 April 2031, NAV service plans end and new NAV user licences can no longer be bought.
When does Dynamics GP support end?
Microsoft ends Dynamics GP support, including tax updates and enhancements, on 31 December 2029. Security updates continue until 30 April 2031. Business Central is the natural next step for most GP customers.
How long does a Business Central migration take?
It depends on your data, customisations and integrations. A lightly customised single company moves faster than a heavily customised multi-company system. After the assessment, you get a fixed price and a milestone plan with a target go-live date.
How much does it cost to migrate to Business Central?
There are two parts: licences and the migration itself. Microsoft lists Essentials at AU$119.70 and Premium at AU$164.60 per user per month, paid yearly and excluding GST (October 2026). ERP Werx fixes the price of the migration after the assessment, so you know the full cost before you commit.
What happens to our NAV customisations?
Each one is reviewed. Many are now standard Business Central features or available as apps. The ones you still need are rebuilt as extensions, so Microsoft’s updates don’t break them.
Can we keep our historical data?
Yes. You choose how much history moves across, from open balances only to several years of detail. Older records can stay accessible in an archive, so you still meet the ATO’s five-year record-keeping rule.
Can we stay on-premises instead of moving to the cloud?
Business Central is still available on-premises. However, Copilot and the new AI agents run in Business Central online, and each on-premises version needs regular upgrades. See our deployment choices.
Can you migrate us from MYOB, Xero or another system?
Yes. We also move businesses to Business Central from accounting packages and other ERP systems, bringing across customers, vendors, items and open balances.
Our migration has stalled with another partner. Can you help?
Yes. We regularly take over Business Central projects that are late, over budget or quietly broken, then stabilise and finish them, usually without re-implementing. See our Business Central Rescue & Recovery services.
